In 2010 total number of candidates in mechanical engineering appear for GATE was 59,338 and in 2016 it was 2,34,727 numbers are almost increased by four times in last six years now what is the reason behind this massive increase in this number, it is because of PSUs recruitment through GATE and limited job options in mechanical engineering after graduation that makes very crucial for a student to prepare for GATE
In this article we will discuss how to prepare GATE Mechanical Engineering 2019. GATE will happen in first week of February which gives you complete 6 months to prepare.
Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme:
First is the pattern of exam, this test paper is online with use of virtual calculator there will be 65 questions from which 30 questions will be one mark and rest 35 will be of two marks in total 100 marks. Marks is approximately distributed as 15 marks from general aptitude, 15 marks from engineering mathematics and rest 70 marks from core subjects. Now there will be two types of questions, objective types and numerical answer questions for previous year paper you can also follow the below link.

How to Prepare GATE Mechanical Engineering 2019
Before starting of any subject you have to learn one thing, it is not about how much you know but how much you understand. IIT says student concepts and application of that concept and solving problems make your strategy based on this point.
Now you have to study these following subjects vary thoroughly Maths, Mechanics, Strength of materials, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat transfer, Materials, Manufacturing, Industrial engineering. Based on your understanding you can pick any subject first you should prepare these subjects for next 6 months and assume this time is 100%. Then ideally you should give 20% time for SOME 20% time for Thermodynamics. 10%-10% to Heat transfer and Fluid Mechanics. 10%-10% to Manufacturing and Industrial engineering. 10% combined to Maths and Mechanics and rest percentage to subjects like materials, IC engines, general aptitude.
Always make 2 level of notes
Level 1: detail assumptions derivations important concepts and tricks.
Level 2: 1 pages containing important formula that only for revision before exam.
GATE 2019 Study Material
For study material you can also follow these books:
Engineering Mathematics By B.S. Grewal
Strength of Materials – S. Ramamutam
You can get lost in this book so practice only one type of question from exercise
solve all exercise questions from chapter 1 to 8 Heat transfer and refrigeration chapter
Manufacturing – R. k. Jain
Study machining casting welding joining and fits tolerances.
Industrial Engineering – O. P. Khana
Study CPM PERTs queuing and forecasting Apart from these you can also watch NPTEL lectures for understanding difficult subjects for your reference.
Please remember for getting ranked you have to study all subjects thoroughly. Design and thermal subjects are little tough but major questions will be asked from this subjects. Manufacturing and industrial engineering questions are mostly straightforward but will be asked in lesser portion.
Last Words: Solve all previous here paper in first three weeks of last month also take any Test Series. Do good practice and get you seen in the pattern just revise for last one week from your notes and solve last to your paper as a mock test with exam conditions. Relax one day before exams. Hope you like this information please share this information with your friends and family or also those who need this.
